Del Picture

Hi sannse.

Hi. We try not to interfere with content on any wiki, and Desencyclopedie and the other humour wikis get a lot of leeway in content. But we do ask for "no shock, no porn, no copyvios". In my opinion, this was a shock image - whether it's genuine or from a movie. So I ask that this isn't used. I'm sure there are a vast number of alternatives! Vandalism

Hi Sannse our site Désencyclopédie is currently under attack from one or several users who have been banned for différent issues and keep vandalizing our pages using new IP every time. Is there a way to forbid modification for all users under IP to prevent this, even for a short period? Hi,

You just deleted the picture Fichier:Chat-99.jpg, due to his silly author Georges Robert. I think it's inapropriate cause it was just a fair use without any comercial issue, and as he admitts it on his personal website : the user who wrote the article Chat let the copyright right at the bottom of the picture. There were no will of stealing his horrible cat-art. I feel concern cause this article is not one of our best on the deesencylopedie, but such copyright stuff could be one more reason to prove that dumb people are right to claim anything at all. No loss, no malicious intent. And I wanted to know why did you agree with the vision of this pain in the ass. "fair use" has lot more aspects to it than "doesn't have commercial use". You can't just take a random image and use it under fair use, it has to be relevant (and other conditions). For example, you may be able to use an image from a movie in a parody about that movie, but not a image I took of a flower in the same article, and not that movie image in an unrelated article. In most cases, what passes for "fair use" here is really "nobody cares". When someone does care enough to complain about the use of their image, then we need to act. Thankfully it's pretty rare, and mostly we leave you to your thing, but occasionally we have to remove something. Yes, I understand perfectly what you mean with easier than to worry about it, my complain was about other thing in fact : anger against that kind of people, coward and finally very poor artist but who can stand out as an obstacle against a free entertaining website. And even if I go on thinking that we should be aloud to use that crappy picture cause there's nothing wrong, I disturbed you for nothing. For what it's worth, you are absolutely free to use any of my photos in any way whatsoever. Although I doubt there's a lot of humorous value in any of them (although I hope there is some in my 'shopping)

By the way, it would be useful to talk to the admins/community in real time sometimes... but the chats I tried were all dead. Do you have another channel somewhere? We generally use this jabber "room". You will have more chance to "catch" somebody between 8 and 11pm (french hour, so GMT+1 or 2 something like that), and if there is nobody, you still can contact a guy connected on the wiki (by looking the last modifications' page) in his own talk page, with a friendly message such as « Hé gros babouin, connecte-toi sur le chan fissa, avant que je te botte le cul. Bisous ». You can copy-paste this example, there isn't any copyright. Héhé (very funny let's say). It's to do with {{Mes brouillons}}. I don't know DPL well enough to diagnose it fully, but whatever that is... it's breaking the page (and 83 other pages]. About Marie Irène bannishement

Hi Sannse. This bannisshement is at best unfair and at worst ridiculous. Marie Irène is one of the most respected and experienced contributors at Désencyclopédie and the fact that she has insulted JMKeynes has nothing to do with an outrageaous behaviour. It was just a funny and totally second degree reaction to the stupid criticism that has been written about her article. JMkenes is a guy who has absolutly no clue about what is Désencyclopédie. That fact that you have bannished Marie Irène without asking any explanation seems to me totally disrespectful of all the time Marie Irène and other people invest on the site. Apparently you prefer to trust a guy who just arrived on Désencyclopédie than someone who is a pillar of the site for more than 5 years now. I could understand a warning message but a bannishement is out of the line. By the way don't hesitate to bannish me for this message if you think it's appropriate. Furthermore, most of the coarse language and the insults in her message come from different Désencyclopédie inside jokes (such as the Morsay arc), the fact that JMKeynes didnt' get this proves that he came here from nowhere, allowed himself to harshly criticize an article written by an extremeley important author, and got all worked up when he was answered in a typical Désencyclopédie fashion. --RTGH Pg d dscssn septembre 18, 2012 à 13:09 (UTC)

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been away for a couple of days.

I wasn't actually concerned with the course language or the insults, but I was concerned by the threats. Those seemed over the line, even though I understood that they were in the context of Désencyclopédie's humor. I asked a native French speaker to check my understanding of the message, and it seems clear that the threats reached the level of breaking Wikia's Terms of Use. My usual reaction would be to ask the admins to take care of the incident (although I would hope they would do so without being asked in the case of extreme threats), but that obviously wasn't possible in this case.

I don't like to step in in this way, and I certainly understand the good standing of Marie Irène, but there are limits and I feel she oversteped them in this case. But, as she is such a pillar of the site, I will remove her ban now - with the hope that the point is made.

One account, two accounts, STOP

I have a small problem. It's happen that many of our pages have a voting system. But many users behavior is to create news accounts to vote for themselves. So we refuse the votes of new users, but a goup of news users call us "despots". I wonder if there would be a way to control the user's IP? Is it possible? This would solve many problems. Hummm... a complicated question. It's not possible to stop someone creating a new account, other than by banning their IP (you can ban without affecting existing logged in users). But to do that, you would have to find and actively ban all IPs used by logged in users... and those IPs are likely to change regularly anyway. So all in all, very impractical.

If there are votes that you are suspicious of I can checkuser the accounts, although that is still limited. It would tell you if the new account and the old account have edited from the same IP, but that doesn't rule out there being another person using the same access point (for example, we have had people at schools showing up on the same IP address). It also doesn't catch anyone who is careful enough to switch IPs when they switch accounts. That said, it can still be a useful tool at times.

So overall, I would recomend you continue to have a waiting period before someone can vote, and that you ask me to run a checkuser if there is a specific vote that makes you very suspicious. It's a privacy issue. An IP can only tell you some things (and those unreliably) but we still keep them private unless it's very necessary to expose them (for example, to block a vandal more effectively) -- sannse (help forum | blog) septembre 24, 2012 à 17:26 (UTC)

Hi, as I said to Pika I think that we can handle with this "Fake User" story. We are on this wiki since a long time and we can easily check who is fake or not... but be careful Sannse, cause as told you Marie Irene you can be used by some fake or fresh new user. They are able to complain about us, so please check carefuly this kind of complain, or please ask us about this strange requests from non-admin user of desencyclopedie. DPL?
